There are a few ways to stop Google Photos backup on your devices, depending on which device you’re using:
On Android:
- Open the Google Photos app.
- Tap your profile picture or initial in the top right corner.
- Select “Photos settings”.
- Tap “Back up & sync”.
- Toggle the switch next to “Back up & sync” to turn it off.
On iPhone:
- Open the Google Photos app.
- Tap the Settings icon (gear wheel) in the top right corner.
- Tap “Back up & sync”.
- Toggle the switch next to “Back up & sync” to turn it off.
On PC:
- Open the Google Photos app on your computer.
- Click on the three dots in the top right corner.
- Select “Settings”.
- Click on “Back up & sync”.
- Toggle the switch next to “Back up & sync” to turn it off.
Additional options:
- Free up space: If you simply want to free up space on your device, you can choose to “Back up photos & videos” only while on Wi-Fi instead of on any network. This will prevent back up when you’re on mobile data.
- Delete specific photos: If you only want to stop backup for specific photos, you can remove them from your Google Photos library. Open the photo in Google Photos and tap the three dots in the top right corner, then select “Remove from device”. This will not delete the photo from your Google Photos library, but it will prevent it from being backed up to your device.
Remember: Turning off backup in Google Photos will prevent any new photos or videos from being uploaded to your Google Photos library from that device. Any photos and videos that are already backed up will remain in your library.
I hope this helps! Let me know if you have any other questions.
